Mysteries and Surprises

Mini-loom
A friend from the Oak Park Women's Exchange thoughtfully considered my children when unloading some of her own children's Playskool toys.  She called me about a small loom that was her daughter's.  I am very excited to teach Abe and Pen how to weave and on a loom sized for little hands.  The only problem is, I want to experiment with some ideas of my own.

Below are obscure pictures of projects that I am working on for the upcoming "Behold the Magic Bandana" show.  I can't tell more about them without revealing the theme of the show.  So, to build suspense and intrigue. . .

Finally, there is a picture of a recent inclusion with my Etsy orders.  I created a card for attaching the pinwheel button which is the secret swag I like to send.

Studio Redo

A new hutch purchased from my parents' neighbors for ten big ones prompted a studio rearrangement.  Another new development, I painted some chairs adding more yellow to my life.

Promotional Material and Some Favorite Things

Pinwheel Button
My Brother and I used to hide pennies above the hallway door.  We'd totter on the highest step precariously sliding pennies onto the molding.  Giggling about our secret treasure we'd wonder if anyone would ever discover it.  Acting alone I would nestle spare change into the fluffy cotton insert of a small gift box and rest it on my mother's pillow.  My belly would leap at the happy thoughts of her finding a surprise before bed.

Ever since reading The Handmade Marketplace which suggests sending swag along with an Etsy purchase,  I've been anticipating making a button.  I finally bit the bullet and ordered pinwheels from zazzle.com.  To add text or to not add text?  I decided to keep it image only.  The buttons look a little dark.  I am not sure if this an issue regarding quality of the image or a result of the plastic coating.  At any rate, can't wait to send one along with my next sale.  Up until now, I've sent a paper wreathe or garland.  I don't know why I get the biggest kick out of sending a surprise!
Yellow thread scraps
I'm finishing up the binding on a quilt.  I should have pictures posted in a day or two.  The quilt will go up on my Etsy shop.  I especially love the yellow thread I used for quilting.  Yellow is my favorite color of 2012.

Abe made succulent planter from cupcake paper mold- good idea!
Spring Tea at Abe's preschool was delightful last Thursday.  His class made concrete planters using paper cupcake liners and a greased cork to make the depression.  They then planted succulents, and the best part, watered them with an eye-dropper.  Succulents are my favorite plant group by far!

Nido Spring Market

New Batch of Bird Ornaments
Yesterday was the Spring Market at Nido which went really well and was fun to boot.  Lisa, my Mom, and I shared a tent out front.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the whole thing.  I do have photos of some new items I made for the event.  I will post some of them to Etsy for sale.  Thanks Lisa for hosting!  I look forward to the Summer Market!  Gotta get busy making . . .

P.S.  I promise a story this week and more news about the Annunciation House Calendar.  This month has been a whirlwind.  Now that my words are immortalized on the web, I am accountable to them.

If you're reading this you've probably noticed the new banner at the top of this blog.  After hours of painting a pinwheel piece pictured above, I decided it wasn't working.   Perhaps it has another direction to which it needs to go? I may revisit it later.  I decided to start over and pull out some paper scraps.   In less than an hour I cut and pasted a new pinwheel that I like much better.  I think it works well on the screen, and I'm hoping it will look equally great in print.  I've got business cards and tags next on my list!

Loca Over Logos

I'm working on developing my logo for business cards, tags, etc.  I have playing with a design showcasing the pinwheel, but it has been challenging.  I'm hoping that finishing this pinwheel painting will help blow me in the right direction.  Here are some photos illustrating where I am at.  Any suggestions, impressions?
